General Summary
Coordinate and implements children's programming and services.
Part time 24 hours a week
Essential Job Functions
1. Answer questions and assist patrons in the children's and
young adult area
2. Plan and conduct storytime.
3. Prepare and present to school-age special interest groups.
4. Prepare and present to after school programs
5. Schedule and publicize children programs.
6. Set up displays related to children's materials.
7. Maintain the children and teens webpage.
8. Keep current with children's library material and services by
reading catalogs, professional journals, and other
literature
9. Shares responsibility for building supervision; opening and
closing the library following established procedures.
10. Answers questions and assists patrons in the library, as requested.
11. Answer the telephones as needed in a courteous and efficient manner.
12. Perform circulation desk duties, as needed.
12. Perform other duties as assigned by the Library Director.
Job Requirements
1. Ability to perform general and library clerical method and
practices.
2. Ability to carry out general rules and regulations of the
library systems.
3. Ability to assist with library circulation procedures.
4. Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with general public.
6. Ability to make minor decisions in accordance with library
policies and procedures.
7. Ability to assist superiors in various phrases of library work.
8. Ability to sort and file alphabetically and numerically.
9. Ability to operate computer and other common office equipment.
10. Ability to read numbers and letters rapidly and accurately.
11. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
12. Requires physical agility and strength to bend, reach, lift and
carry (up to 25lbs.)
13. Ability to work with moderate supervision.
14. Ability to maintain composure in a stressful work situation.
15. Has the authority to make decisions regarding the children's program
within the limits set by the Library Director.
16. Demonstrated ability to read, capture, and hold the attention of
young children.
17. Ability to assist patrons in use of computer and teach basic
computer skills patrons.
18. Ability to attend workshops and meetings to keep current in
children's services issues, policies, and new techniques.
Minimum Education & Experience Required
Associates degree or 2 years of college; B.A. preferred; training
and/or experience in early childhood education; library experience
preferred. |
